AZ-900 — Frequently Asked Questions
Is AZ-900 a good starting point for cloud beginners?
Absolutely. AZ-900 Azure Fundamentals requires no prior technical experience. It validates foundational cloud knowledge and is ideal for anyone beginning their cloud journey — including non-technical roles in business, finance, or project management.
What is the passing score for AZ-900?
The passing score is 700 on Microsoft's 100–1000 scale. AZ-900 is considered entry-level, but still requires study — especially the cloud concepts and governance sections which test specific terminology and model distinctions.
How long is the AZ-900 exam?
AZ-900 is 45 minutes long with around 40–60 questions. The time is generous — most candidates complete it in under 30 minutes. The questions are generally shorter than Associate-level exams.
Does AZ-900 expire?
AZ-900 is a Fundamentals certification and does NOT expire. Unlike role-based certifications (AZ-104, AZ-305), Fundamentals badges are permanent once earned. Microsoft periodically updates the exam objectives but existing certifications remain valid.
Should I take AZ-900 before AZ-104?
AZ-900 is not a prerequisite for AZ-104, but it is helpful if you are new to cloud. If you already have hands-on Azure experience, you can skip AZ-900 and go directly to AZ-104. AZ-900 is best for those with no prior cloud background.
